In recent years, the popularity of alternative medicine has been on the rise, as people seek out holistic and natural approaches to enhance their well-being. While traditional medical treatments remain vital. With this in mind, integrating alternative medicine into medical insurance coverage can provide our members with a broader range of options for maintaining and improving their health.

 

 

What is alternative medicine?

Alternative medicine provides an alternative approach to conventional medicine by considering the body’s natural healing abilities. It embraces a holistic perspective, utilizing invasive procedures such as injections, cupping, and acupuncture, as well as medications and technological tools. Within alternative medicine, there are four distinct medical specialties.

• Ayurveda medicine (AVM): traditional art of healing widespread in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka
• Homeopathy: gentle treatment method using highly diluted substances

• Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): Chinese system of medicine that is over 2,000 years old
• Traditional European Medicine (TEN): holistic, diagnostic and therapeutic method that has developed over the last 2,500 years

What conditions apply?

In order for Nextcare to cover the expenses associated with alternative medicine treatment, certain criteria must be fulfilled:

• The treatment must be deemed medically necessary, which applies when it is necessitated by an accident or illness
• The treatment must be administered by a recognized clinic or medical center as listed below

Treating doctors, physicians, or therapists should be certified by the applicable regulatory bodies. Without a certificate of competence from a regulator or a therapist with alternative or complementary medical training, the costs will not be covered by insurance.

Reimbursement claims in the UAE will be approved, only if received from the below list of providers, which are recognized and approved by Nextcare as alternative preferred providers:
